ISAR RIVER OF MUNICH It is an important river in Bavaria (Germany) that originates in the Eiskarlspitze (Austrian Alps), passes through Munich and, after a journey of about 295 km, empties into the Danube. It has numerous river islands, which is due to the sediments carried from the northern slopes of the Austrian Alps. These alluviums explain, in a certain way, the possible etymology of its name. Its source is located on the border between Germany and Austria in the area known as the Bavarian Karwendel, which is a part of the Alps, near the city of Mittenwald. From there it runs north through the city of Munich, and then turns northwest south of Deggendorf, where it joins the Danube.
